Executive Committee Roles – Call for EOIs

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST (deadline 1 September 2023)

The Association for the Study of Modern and Contemporary France (ASMCF) invites expressions of interest for three roles on its Executive Committee. These are excellent opportunities to be involved in the discipline on a national and international basis. The Committee currently meets online three times a year and once in person at the annual conference (subject to change). Members are based in the UK and Ireland, and all positions are voluntary and not remunerated. Standard travel expenses for in-person meetings will be reimbursed. It is anticipated that the new Officers will take up the role(s) from October 2023, and candidates should be members of the Association or join it on taking up office. The ASMCF is fully committed to building and sustaining equality, diversity and inclusion in all of our activities and in the membership of our committee. We particularly welcome applications from those who are currently under-represented in the academy.

Web Officer

Working alongside the existing Web Officer, this role will involve working with an external designer to establish the specifications of a new website, and liaising with Exec members to maintain and update the website with new content. The Web Officers are full members of the Executive and contribute to the direction of the Association. The role will normally be held by an individual based at a university in the UK or Ireland.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to the current Web Officer, Dr Helen McKelvey.

Postgraduate Representative

Expressions of interest are invited from PhD students undertaking research within the field of modern and contemporary French Studies. The position is tenable for two years and would be suited to a PhD student normally finishing the first year of their studies. Working with the existing Postgraduate Representative (currently in the second year of her role), the main duties include organising the annual Postgraduate Study Day (in conjunction with the Society for the Study of French History) and the Postgraduate Essay Prize at the Annual Conference, as well as attending four Committee Meetings during the course of the year.

Informal inquiries can be made to the current ASMCF Postgraduate Representative, Cécile Guigui.

Membership Secretary

Working alongside the President and Hon Secretary, this role will involve working with our publishers, Taylor & Francis, to produce quarterly membership reports and a bi-annual newsletter, respond to member queries, and manage the ASMCF Mentorship scheme. The Membership Secretary is a full member of the Executive and contributes to the direction of the Association. The role will normally be held by an individual based at a university in the UK or Ireland.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to the Honorary Secretary, Dr Fiona Barclay.

Applications

Interested applicants should send an expression of interest in the form of a CV and brief letter, explaining why the position is of interest to them and outlining their suitability for the post to ASMCF Hon. Secretary, Dr Fiona Barclay by 1 September 2023.
